Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, an economist of international repute and the vice presidential candidate for the New Patriotic Party in the December, 2008 and 2012 elections has been appointed as Visiting Professor of Economic Governance at the Central University College.
The Professorship in Economic Governance was established in 2013 by Central University College through the William Ofori-Atta Institute of Integrity (WOAII) and is the first of its kind at any university in Ghana.
According to the President of Central University College, Professor Kwesi Yankah, the position is to provide a unique and nuanced platform for an individual with celebrated expertise in economic governance to influence the quality of national thinking on the subject through research and seminars.
The scholar recruited for the position should be an outstanding individual committed to cutting- edge research and applying scholarship to contemporary economic challenges.
He will also spearhead a campaign of knowledge dissemination in economic governance policies based on experience and research.
Under the terms and conditions of the position, Dr Bawumia will be expected to lead seminars within the MBA programme at the Central Business School, and the Department of Economics supervise thesis and dissertations on relevant topics, and apply his mind to crucial economic governance issues at the national and international levels.
He will examine issues on transparency in economic management, and policies required to ensure greater public sector performance monitoring, evaluation and oversight. He will as well interact with students and faculty on how best to promote sound public financial management.
Dr Bawumia has a Ph.D in Economics from Simon Fraser University, Burnaby, British Columbia, Canada with specialisation in Macroeconomics, International Economics and Monetary Economics. He has also worked as a Consultant, Resident Representative, African Development Bank Group in Zimbabwe, and Visiting Research Associate at the Department of Economics at the University of Oxford. He has also been Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana.
Dr Bawumia has several publications to his credit.
