The Goaso police have detained Ali Salaam 22, a chainsaw operator, for allegedly killing Police Sergeant James Adoma Nimako when he resisted arrest in the Bosombiposo Forest Reserve in Asunafo South Municipality of Brong Ahafo Region on Wednesday.
Assistant Commissioner of Police and Brong Ahafo Regional Police Commander, Seth Charles Oteng, who confirmed the incident to Ghana News Agency, said the deceased was the station officer at Asumura police station.
He said at about 1800 hours on October 27 this year, Mr Safo Nixon, staff of Forestry Commission in-charge of the reserve reported at Asumura police station that some chainsaw operators were felling trees inside the reserve.
ACP Oteng said the deceased accompanied Nixon to the reserve, met the suspect in the act and attempted to arrest him.
He said the suspect who was armed with a locally manufactured pistol resisted arrest and in a scuffle with the deceased, shot at him killing him instantly.
ACP Oteng said the suspect was overpowered and sent to Goaso police station.
The corpse has been deposited at Goaso Government Hospital.
