Tamale South MP, Haruna Iddrisu, has issued a passionate call for change, accusing the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government of corrupting Ghana’s democratic values and compromising the public system.
Speaking to supporters during the election period, he highlighted the urgent need for a new direction in governance under the National Democratic Congress' flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama.
"The NPP government has already corrupted the public system, and they are seeking to corrupt our democracy and compromise its values.
“We expect a visceral response for change—for the good and health of our democracy, for the health of our economy, and for the health of good governance. Change is necessary, and change will happen,” he declared.
He expressed confidence in his re-election to Parliament, pledging to address critical issues such as youth unemployment, women's economic empowerment, and the water crisis in Tamale.
According to him, when re-elected, he will serve his constituents much better than he's done in the past.
“I owe it to the people of Tamale to advocate for quality, affordable drinking water in the coming days,” he added.
Mr Iddrisu also accused the NPP of openly engaging in vote buying during the elections, describing it as a criminal act under electoral laws and a 'disgrace' to democratic principles. “On voting day, you are sending people to queues with money. That’s unacceptable and very shameful,” he said.
He urged Ghanaians to support John Mahama, whom he believes can reset the economy, restore governance integrity, and address the pressing challenges facing the nation.
