Berekum Chelsea and Medeama will face-off in the battle of joint-leaders in the peak of the Week 27 matches at the Golden City Park on Sunday.
Expectations will be high despite the fact that the week-end matches has been blighted by sad news in the course of the week, including the withdrawal of Berekum Arsenals following an 8,000 cedis fine slapped on them by the Ghana Football Association (GFA) for post-match incidents in a game against Hearts of Oak last March.
Also three clubs - Kotoko, Arsenals and Aduana - had their home grounds temporarily banned by the Executive Committee of the GFA due to crowd-violence related issues in recent matches.
Both Chelsea and Medeama share the same aim – move clear at the top, but Chelsea coming back from a 3-0 drubbing at the hands of Hearts of Oak in Accra last weekend, will be seeking to win back the support of their fans with an outcome that would also keep their title winning ambitions on course.
Whilst Chelsea slipped to third place, Medeama returned to winning ways beating whipping boys, Real Tamale United 3-0 to catch-up on same points, and move a place up on superior goals.
The ‘Blues’ have remained a hard nut to crack at their backyard and are expected to offer Medeama their biggest test after their barren draw with Asante Kotoko a fortnight ago. For either side, the outcome of the match will serve a pivotal role in their chase for the title, which has Kotoko as the other contenders.
Kotoko will host Aduana Stars in a tricky duel at the Coronation Park in Sunyani, following the temporary home ban. Despite playing away from home, trust the red army Porcupine Warriors to throng the Brong Ahafo regional capital in their numbers, while Aduana also enjoy some considerable amount of support as a result of the proximity between Dormaa and Sunyani.
Coach Mad-Ud Didi Dramani will be hoping for a continuation of the winning form that saw them dismantle Arsenals at the weekend to make a firm grip of the top spot.
In Bekwai, Edubiase will slug it out with King Faisal in an Ashanti Regional derby whilst Dwarfs are favaoured to snatch the maximum points at the expense of Tema Youth in Cape Coast.
In-form Hearts of Oak will face a stern test at the Wa Park as guests of All Stars in an encounter that the host must play above themselves to halt the Phobians.
At Tema, Amidaus Professionals will host AshantiGold in a dicey duel whilst Arsenals can boost their survival hopes with victory against relegated RTU at the Tamale Stadium. It is however not known if the ‘Gunners’ will honour the game after having their withdrawal turned down by the GFA.
On Saturday, Liberty Professionals will square Heart of Lions in a match of equals in Damsoman.
