Osabarima Antwi Agyei V, Chief of Okadjakrom, has appealed to politicians to avoid campaign of insults, acrimony, ethnocentrism and violence to preserve Ghana’s peace, unity and stability. He reminded them that even though their ultimate goal was to win power, they were equally obliged to unite and mobilise the people for national development. Osabarima Agyei made the appeal in an interview with Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Accra at the weekend. He advised the politicians to educate and explain issues, their policies and programmes to solve the country’s socio-economic and political problems to enable the electorate vote for them. Osabarima Agyei, who is also Twafohene of Buem Traditional Area in Jasikan District, Volta Region, appealed to Ghanaians to safeguard the socio-economic and political achievements made under the fragile multiparty democracy. He called on Ghanaians to collectively prevent confusion, violence, destruction of properties and lives during Election 2008 adding” voting is to express one’s political will”. Osabarima Agyei noted that multiparty democracy was to promote peace and stability to ensure job creation, infrastructural development, improvement in living standards and elimination of illiteracy, poverty and ignorance. He said the youth should be involved in promoting peace, stability, good governance, national development and advised them to reject self-seeking politicians who might influence them to create confusion during the December 7 polls. Osabarima Agyei pointed out that Ghana’s democracy was a show case for Africa and Election 2008 would be a litmus test since the world was waiting for the outcome. He appealed to the Electoral Commission (EC) to accept concrete criticism from politicians in good faith to ensure credible polls. Osabarima Agyei urged activists and supporters of political parties, media, security agencies and other stakeholders to support the EC to ensure free, fair and peaceful elections. Source: GNA
