It is feared that hundreds of people in the Adaklu Anyigbe district are at risk of starvation after they were cut off by floods gradually taking over the area.
The Chief of Adaklu Wanya, Togbe Lablulu Degbeza, for instance told Joy News vehicular movements in and out of his community have been obstructed by the overflowing rivers that have covered the four major roads leading to the place.
Worst still, he said, for two weeks now, people have not been able to go to their farms; adding that farm produce have also been submerged in rain water.
“One pathetic issue is that farmers cannot go to their farms to look for food, and crops like cassava are getting rotten, maize which are ready for harvesting are under water.”
Togbe Lablulu Degbeza was alarmed if the situation persisted for a little longer, residents are likely to be faced with “imminent hunger”.
He said messages he had received from fellow chiefs in various communities within the Adaklu Anyigbe district have also complained of similar problems.
He said the people are yet to receive help from the Nation Disaster and Management Organisation.
Togbe Lablulu Degbeza warned that: “If we are not careful we may have cholera outbreak too.”
He said the situation has also affected education in the area.
Meanwhile, flood victims in the Eastern Region are yet to receive relief items.
According to Joy News report, communities are being flooded and several roads are still cut off.
Eastern Regional NADMO Coordinator, Ransford Owusu Boakye however told Joy News the situation is under control and distribution of relief items will begin by the close of Friday.
