The Ga Mantse, Nii Teiku Tsuru II, has highlighted the significance of a Chieftaincy Act to ensure the legal authority and societal impact of chiefs in Ghana.
In a yet-to-be-aired interview on Joy FM’s Personality Profile, the paramount chief called for a comprehensive review and enhancement of Article 63 of the Chieftaincy Act.
According to him, Article 63 of the Chieftaincy Act, will institute a legal framework that is essential to uphold the authority and integrity of traditional leadership.
“Chiefs need the backing of the Chieftaincy Act because when you are recognized by statute you become a creature of that statute, it means that you are guided by its laws. And if you are guided by this law, it means that these are the laws that empower you and give you the needed support and authority legally.
“And I believe that Article 63 of the Chieftaincy Act must be looked at again. So that it is given the full and maximum support for it to be active,” he told host Lexis Bill.
Expressing concerns over self-styled chiefs, the Ga Mantse said such devious persons inadvertently undermine the credibility and authority of legitimate chiefs in the country.
To address these issues, Nii Teiku Tsuru II urged the National and Regional House of Chiefs, alongside other chiefs in Ghana, to collaborate with the Minister of Chieftaincy to revisit and institute the Chieftaincy Act
“These are things that I believe will give chiefs the authority to be able to contribute more socio-economically to our communities and Ghana as a whole," he asserted.
Personality Profile is set to air at 8 pm on Joy FM tonight. The one-and-a-half show promises to be enlightening and interesting.
