Chief Executive Officer of the Chosen Rehab Centre, Apostle Daniel Cobby Washington, has called out the lack of employment opportunities for people who have overcome their addictions.

According to him, the inability of society to give these individuals, who have worked greatly on themselves to be better persons, an opportunity can result in a relapse.

Speaking on Showbiz A-Z on JoyFM, Apostle Washington said that many former rehab patients are faced with stigmatisation and are unable to land jobs that would help them back on their feet.

He said that “those of us that you've travelled a little bit, you can see that when someone leaves a rehab, they can easily get a job at McDonald's, they can get a job at Burger King, they can get a job at KFC, but do we do the same thing here?”

“So the person that is no more an addict, needs to have a new life or new people around him, have a job but he walks through Accra, he drops CVs everywhere and nobody will accept him,” Apostle Washington said.

He added “he could easily be at the ghetto or the drinking bar, where he talks to his old bodies and the bodies are like, ‘hey, you're looking very good. Can we work on you with just one sip?'”

As a result, the former rehab patients face the risk of falling back into the old company, Apostle Washington added.

The Chosen Rehab Centre’s CEO’s comments come after a JoyNews hotline documentary by Joy FM journalist Kwame Dadzie, titled Creative Addictions.

In 'Creative Addictions', some creatives open up on how they found themselves in such a noose and the effects it has had on them.

A number of Ghanaian creatives have suffered the scourge of drug addiction. Kiki Gyan, Timothy Bentum, OJ Blaq, Nasty, Lord Kenya, Okomfo Kwadee, Sugartone, Red Eye of 2Toff fame, former Peace FM presenter Eric Noah King, Bak Tye, Jay Dee, and others have been in this situation.

Some of them open up about their addictions and their journey to recovery and staying clean.

Experts in psychiatry also share their opinions on what can be done to help people get out of drug addiction.
