The private citizen who petitioned the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) over the display of wealth by the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Goldbod, Samuel Gyamfi, has withdrawn his request for a probe.

Eric Dumenu Akatsi submitted a request to discontinue the probe in a formal letter today, May 14, 2025.

"I am writing to formally withdraw the petition I submitted on 13th May, 2025, with reference number 122/12/BL. 12 regarding the instances of corruption against Sammy Gyamfi, CEO of the Ghana Good Board. After careful consideration, I have decided that it is in the best interest to withdraw this petition," he stated.

"Accept this letter as formal notice of the withdrawal of the petition. Cease any further action related
to the petition. I appreciate the time and effort invested in reviewing the petition. If you require any additional information or documentation, please do not hesitate to contact me".

The incident in question occurred on Saturday, May 10, 2025, when Mr Gyamfi was seen in widely circulated videos gifting bundles of US dollars to controversial evangelist Nana Agradaa while seated in his Range Rover.

In his petition, Mr Akatsi had referenced Article 218(e) of the 1992 Constitution of Ghana, which empowers CHRAJ to investigate alleged or suspected corruption and abuse of power by public officials.

He had called particular attention to Mr Gyamfi’s conduct in the video, labelling the dollar-splashing act as “a perfectly clear instance of alleged engagement in suspected corruption”.

However, he wants the process discontinued entirely.

A few days before the withdrawal, he said he had received threats to his life.

“Some of these people are invoking insults and threats as though I committed a crime,” he said.

“Let me put on record that I have nothing against Sammy. I am only exercising my right as a citizen by calling on institutions of state to investigate an issue of public interest,” he explained.

Meanwhile, the Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, has formally cautioned Mr Gyamfi, with no further actions expected from the government or the Presidency over the matter.

Government spokesperson Felix Kwakye Ofosu says the Presidency has declared the matter resolved after Mr Gyamfi's apology.

The decision was announced during a press briefing on Wednesday, May 14.

"So in view of that, the Presidency does not believe that any further actions ought to be taken beyond the apology and the caution," Mr Kwakye Ofosu stated.

The spokesperson explained that “the Chief of Staff cautioned him, having acknowledged the apology he made, he cautioned him and impressed upon him to take on board public sentiment and act in ways that reflect public expectation."
