The Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIMG) is seeking to play a lead advocacy role in marketing the Ghana brand.
Over the years there have been efforts by government to brand Ghana as the premier business destination on the continent.
Evident to that was the establishment of the Brand Ghana Office five years ago to map out strategies to promote the country. Currently Ghana is ranked the 9th most valuable brand behind South Africa, Egypt, Nigeria and Kenya among others.
But President of the Chartered Institute of Marketing, Shola Safo-Duodu believes more can be achieved if the institute is engaged in efforts to brand the country.
“What we need to do is to bring our members to a cutting edge level where they are the first people anyone calls when there is a marketing issue. So they can speak to marketing issues at the national level,” she said.
She was speaking to JOY BUSINESS at the Institute’s 25th annual general meeting.
Meanwhile, the CIMG is set to introduce a new dual marketing qualification this year. Students trained under the programme would be offered the opportunity to obtain a degree and a professional qualification concurrently.
The new programme is a partnership agreement between the CIMG and the South African Institute of Marketing Management (IMM).
The 25th CIMG Annual General Meeting was held in Accra under the theme: Great marketing means great business.
