Chief Justice, Sophia Akuffo, has promised to improve justice delivery at the circuit and district level to effectively deal with litigations that are likely to arise in communities where government’s One District One Factory would be cited.
Speaking at the opening of the Forum of Heads of Girls’ Senior High Schools in Cape Coast, she said the initiative is dear to her heart.
“One of the things that the Lord has really put on my heart for the brief period I will be serving as Chief Justice, because I will be retiring in 2019, will be to make sure that the district courts, be it the magistrate court, and any courts that are close to the communities, are going to be as good and as efficiently prepped as the High Courts and the city courts,” she said during the forum held at the Wesley Girls High School campus.
She anticipates that the factories that will come into the districts and the economic activities that they will engender will require quality judicial service to deal with economic disputes.
“Where human beings are interacting economically, there is always a dispute but the judiciary will be poised to meet those [disputes],” she said.
The Chief Justice also called for the effective mentoring of the girl-child and Ghanaian students in general on the need to think outside the box and not dwell excessively on what they are taught.
