Clearing agents at the Kotoka International Airport have agreed to peacefully have their complaints about procedural delays resolved with BIVAC, the inspection agency at the port.
The clearing agents at Aviance had threatened to embark on a sit-down strike to deprive the state of a day’s revenue in protest of the delays by BIVAC in processing their valuation requests.
BIVAC, according to them unduly delays the assessment of duty payable on their imports sometimes for more than a week.
The President of the Freight Forwarders Association at KIA, Kwabena Ofosu Appiah told Joy Business they reached an agreement with the inspection company’s representatives at a meeting on Friday.
“We are just not agitating but proffering solutions and we mentioned some of the solutions we think must be put in place to even serve as an incentive for doing things right."
He said the meeting was fruitful and hoped the necessary measures will be put in place to avert some of the problems they face.
