The Ghana Cocoa Board says it has managed to resolve the problems threatening the survival of local subsidiary of US food processing giant, Archer Daniels Midland Company.
The company, one of the world’s largest cocoa and chocolate manufacturers complained it was having difficulties getting supplies for the special light crop beans it requires for its operations.
It came very close to shutting down its 30,000-tonne plant in Kumasi, after laying off 70 temporary staff.
COCOBOD Chief Executive Anthony Fofie however tells Joy Business, some 500 tonnes of the light beans have since been supplied to the company.
He said his outfit was able to reach a compromise with the company culminating in the company’s resolution to purchase 3,000 tonnes of the main crop.
