The Electoral Commission is courting the collaboration of stakeholders in the electoral process to ensure a peaceful and violence-free election in December.
The Commission believes key roles by these unidentifiable groups will ensure the process is free and fair in line with the Sustainable Development Goal 16, which aims among other things, to reduce violence and promote peace around the world.
“The EC alone cannot ensure that the electoral process is free, fair and transparent. Other actors have a role to play and in doing so; we will achieve national peace and stability,” acting Director at the Commission, Alexander Poku Akubia, said at a stakeholder forum in Accra.
He also urged political parties to conduct clean campaigns and disband vigilante groups as the 2020 election approaches.
“We know that elections are competitive and every competition has a potential to cause confusion but what we all want is peace and not violence and that’s what we must all fight for.”
Speaking at the same forum, the National Peace Council urged the security agencies to rise up to the occasion and ensure the December 2020 process is incident-free.
George Amoh who represented the Chairman of the Peace Council at the event said, Ghana can once again prove to the world that the country is peaceful if acts of violence are not recorded during the election.Latest Stories
