The government has set up a committee to review the contract with Aqua Vitens Rand, managers of the country’s water.Aqua Vitens has a five year management contract with the Ghana Water Company to improve urban water distribution and supply.But many civil society organizations have on numerous occasions called for the abrogation of the contract arguing AVRL’s intervention in the sector has exacerbated the situation.The review committee comprises of staff of the Ghana Water Company and officials of the Ministry of Water Resources.They will review the performance of AVRL after three days, officials said.The Chief Production Manager of GWCL, Mr. Ebenezer Gabrah told Joy News’ Sammy Darko the review was to remove all bottlenecks in the contract.He said there were some distortions in the contract that needed streamlining.“There are some issues that we have problems with in the contract particularly with regards to baseline studies,” he stated.Communications Manager of AVRL, Stanley Martey told Joy News they are ready for the review.He expressed optimism their successes and achievements will be appreciated.Story by Malik Abass Daabu/Myjoyonline.com
