Board Chairman of Accra Hearts of Oak E.N Commodore Mensah says he will hang on to his position until a substantive team is elected to take over.
He admits that his term of office is over but says “nature abhors vacuum and not until the Council of Patrons come out with guidelines as to the way forward we still have to remain in office.
“We cannot just say because theoretically our term is over we will fold up our hands and leave the club in a vacuum.”
He was speaking to Joy Sports’ Nathaniel Attoh in an interview on Friday.
His comments come amidst threats of demonstration from the national chapters committee, the supporters union of the club, if the board attempts to renew their tenure in offer.
Commodore Mensah called for cool heads to prevail and appealed to supporters to be wary of utterances which would hurt the integrity and image of the club.
Asked what legacy he left behind for the Phobians, Mensah echoed “the core business of the club is to play football; winning two league titles out of four is there for anybody to make his own judgement.”
He was however unhappy with the state of finances of the club.
“It will be dishonest of me to say I am happy at the state of the club. The club’s finances have not been good. Only God knows how we have managed these past years,” he said.
On why the club failed to go to congress to elect new executives, Commodore Mensah said the club is following road map adopted after an extraordinary meeting held in September and that has delayed congress for a while.
He paid glowing tribute to communication giants MTN whose sponsorship to the club, he said, has been outstanding.
