Communications Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah has been honoured by the chiefs and people of Koforidua-Effiduase in the Eastern Region.

The honour, according to the elders, is in recognition of his immense contributions to the development of the area as well as the honour he has brought Effiduase through his enviable public life and conduct.

Dr. Omane Boamah had both his basic and secondary education at the Pope John secondary and Junior seminary situated at Koforidua-Effiduase.

The chief of Effiduase Okoawia Dwumoh Baabu II praised the Communications Minister for being a good ambassador of the area.

He said Dr. Omane Boamah’s elevation from a deputy minister of environment to a substantive ministerial position was testament to his hard and diligent work as a government appointee.

‘’We have monitored your progress since you were a child and we are not surprised at all by the progress you’ve made so far in achieving this feat. We are proud of you as an illustrious son of this town and we shall always hope for the best for you,” he said.

Dr. Omane Boamah and his wife, Rita Omane Boamah, were decorated with colourful Kente cloth and traditional sandals, ‘Ahenema’, to signify the appreciation and gratitude of the chiefs and people of the area are.

Also honoured was Deputy Employment and Social Welfare Minister, Mr. Antwi Boasiako-Sekyere who commended for flying the flag of the area high.

In an acceptance speech on behalf of both honourees, Mr.Boasiako-Sekyere encouraged the Ghanaian youth to work assiduously towards achieving their aspirations.

“Hard work they say breaks no bone. As youth, you cannot achieve your dreams if you cultivate the habit of laziness. Let us work hard towards realizing our future dreams and we shall surely be paid for our hard work,” he admonished.

In an interview with JoyNews after the ceremony, Dr. Omane Boamah expressed appreciation for the recognition.

‘’We feel very humbled by their thoughtfulness and it is a lesson that whatever you do if you dedicate yourself to it and do it very well there will be observers, very genuine impartial observers who will be marking you’’.

“We hope this will serve as a stepping stone for others who will come after us to even go higher and achieve higher laurels we have been able to do for our people,” he added.

He noted that in spite of the massive development projects undertaken by the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) government in the Eastern Region such as dormitory blocks for schools, provision of ICT centres, expansion of electricity connectivity, there is more to be done by the government.

‘’We still think there are more things to be done for the people of this region and these include the university his Excellency the president promised to establish in Eastern region.

‘’We will continue to work very hard to ensure that it reflects a nation that is in a hurry to develop for us to achieve an advanced human society that can compete with any other in the world,” he explained.

The ceremony brought together residents of the New Juaben, especially adherents of the NDC.

It was attended by deputy Education Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa and his wife, as well as other NDC stalwarts.

Dr. Omane Boamah showed his dancing skills by dancing the traditional ‘Kete’ dance to the admiration of all.
