The chiefs and people of Adum Banso are constructing a multi-million cedi community centre through self-help.
The project comprising of 10 rooms and a conference hall is being financed with funds from land royalties.
Speaking to the GNA at Adum Banso, Mr Isaac Minyimsaah, contractor, said ¢3.5 billion had been sunk into the project so far.
He was speaking in an interview when the Benso Oil Palm Plantation (BOPP), presented 250 bags of cement valued at ¢250 million to the community to ensure the early completion of the project started about one and half years ago.
Mr Nenenyo Mate Kole, Managing Director of BOPP, announced that the company would sponsor the education of six senior secondary school students in the three communities it was operating in for the 2007/08 academic year.
He said three needy but brilliant students from Adum Banso, two from Benso and one from Adum Dominase would benefit from the package.
Mr Mate Kole appealed to the communities to form committees to process the scholarship scheme and asked them to give preference to students whose parents could not afford their children's school fees.
Nana Kobina Acquah, Regent of Adum Banso, expressed gratitude and appealed to the company to continue its assistance to help improve the living standard of the people.
BOPP had provided ¢60.3 million to assist the community's rural water project, construct a KVIP and donated computers, books and shelves for the District Assembly Junior Secondary School library.
Mr Bernard Kojo Quayson, Assembly Member for Adum Banso, thanked the company for the gesture and urged BOPP to continue supporting the community's development programmes.
