Ghana's Bawa Fuseini has been appointed Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Confederation of African Athletics Region II (CAA Region II).
Mr Fuseini's appointment was announced by newly elected president of the CAA Region II, Tonobok Okowa in Accra on Saturday.
The Ghana Athletics Association (GAA) CEO occupied the role between 2019 and 2023 under the leadership of former President, Ibrahim Gasau, who decided not to seek re-election at the CAA Region II General Assembly.
Bawa, considered one of the topmost brains in athletics administration in the Ecowas region had confidence reposed in him by Okowa to help steer his administration to a success.
"I invite Bawa [Fuseini] to join us [new executives on the podium] as the CEO," Okowa announced before the swearing-in of the new executives at the La Palm Royal Beach Hotel where the elections took place.
"Experience is key and we would need Bawa's experience if we want to succeed," he noted.
Bawa Fuseini will be working with the rest of the leadership including Gambia’s Alhaji Doodou Joof (vice president), Niger’s Aliou Oumarou (Financial Director), Martin Bangura of Siera Leone who heads the Marketing and Sponsorship department, and Ousmane Camara will be in charge of auditing.
Sawadogo Missiri is the technical director.
Kouami Jeannot, Aminata Keita, and Oually Sara are the executive members.
