Ghana's First Lady, Ernestina Naadu Mills has appealed to the media in Africa to step up their coverage of women’s activities and achievements on the continent.
She said such a move will adequately project gains made by women in socio-economic and political spheres dominated by men.
The First Lady made the appeal at the opening of a conference of African Business women in Accra.
The conference is to foster interaction among female business leaders and innovators.
The conference will also reward innovative business women in Africa.
Naadu Mills commended the women for contributing to the current growth being recorded on the continent describing them as “Africa’s backbone”.
The former Chief Executive of the Ghana Chamber of Mines, Dr. Joyce Aryee, encouraged participants to take up interests in the expanding hospitality, legal, oil and gas, construction and tourism sectors.
The Minister for Women and Children’s Affairs, Juliana Azumah-Mensah, announced the institution of a fund to offer support to victims of abuse, homeless women and children as well as financially distressed women.
There was an exhibition of products manufactured by women.
The Ministry of Women and Children’s Affairs and the Global Women Inventors and Innovators Network (GWIIN) are hosting the two-day conference.
