Barely, seven months after Rabiu and Sam Peter, two notorious armed robbers were killed by the police in a fierce shootout at Ogbojo near Madina in Accra, 25-year-old Hamza Iddrisu; the third accomplice, who managed to escape, has finally been arrested.
Suspect Hamza fled with a motorbike after his accomplices Baba Hassan aka Rabiu, 45, and Sam Peter, 32, a Nigerian, were killed in a shootout after an attempt to rob a Nigerian business man was uncovered by the police on February 24, this year. They also killed a policeman on a guard duty at UBA bank in Tema.
After his escape, Hamza fled to South Africa to enjoy the booty and escape police arrest.
After spending seven months in South Africa, and running out of cash to continue his flashy lifestyle in that country, Hamza returned to Accra to possibly, continue with his robbery operations, when police, upon a tip off, grabbed him at his hideout at Kotobabi.
Some of the robberies the suspect confessed to have taken part in together with Rabiu and Sam Peter were the Louis Gas robbery in which the managing director of the company, Louis Kofi Badu, was killed in 2010, Ecobank robbery in August 2011 at the Accra Mall branch near the Tetteh Quarshie Roundabout, Antis (dealers in building materials) robbery in January and the Tema bank robbery in which a cop was killed, also in January 2012.
At a press briefing in Accra, the Deputy Accra Regional Police Commander DCOP Christian Tetteh Yohuno, said after his escape on February 24, this year, police mounted a search for him.
On August 31, 2012, around 7:30a.m., as are; suit of diligent intelligence, suspect Hamza was smoked out from his hideout at Kotobabi.
Two friends who were harbouring him have also been nabbed by the police. They were Iddrisu Abdalah, 20, and Bashin Nuhu, 20.
The two accomplices, according to DCOP Yohuno, would be charged for harbouring a criminal.
He appealed to victims of robberies at Agbogba, Madina, Tema and Spintex road in 2010 up to this year, to contact the regional police command for identification of the suspect.
Meanwhile, suspect Iddrisu was being held for conspiracy and robbery.
He would soon be arraigned together with the two before court.
