Pressure group, Right Alliance Africa, has called on the Electoral Commission (EC) to suspend plans to compile a new biometric voters’ register on April 18 in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.
“We are…calling on the EC to take precaution to suspend the plans to conduct the new Biometric Voters Register until the government brings the COVID-19 under control and prevention,” the group said in a statement.
Latest directives from the President, Nana Akufo-Addo, to deal with the spread of the disease ban all public gatherings for four weeks.
Right Alliance Africa argues that a decision by EC to suspend the exercise will be in line with this directive to deal with the spread of the virus.
