The three accused persons who allegedly conspired to steal a week-old baby from its mother at Ofaakor, a suburb of Kasoa in the Central Region, have been remanded into police custody by a circuit court.
Magdalene Nana Adwoa Boafo, 28; Faustina Binney, 32; and Eunice Koomson, 36, pleaded not guilty to the charges of conspiracy to steal a child and stealing.
The case was adjourned to Friday, July 26, 2024.
The prosecutor, Inspector Amos Koda, told the court, presided over by Isaac Oheneba Kufour, that Magdalene Boafo, the first accused person, befriended the victim when she was eight months pregnant and offered to assist her financially.

Boafo then introduced the two others as helpers and relocated the victim from Jei River to a rented apartment at Lamptey, a suburb of Adam Nana in Kasoa, and continued to support her until she gave birth.
She later took the baby two days after birth, claiming the baby had contracted an infection and introduced another woman as medical staff from the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital who would take the baby to the facility for treatment.
A few days later, the three informed the victim that her baby had died, but she disagreed and reported the matter to the police.
Inspector Koda said the three were arrested by the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit of the Kasoa Divisional Police Command on Friday, July 19, 2024.
In their initial statement to the police, they admitted that they conspired to steal the child for Faustina Binney who had experienced multiple miscarriages and desired a child.
Counsel for the accused, Mr Abdul Aziz Mohammed, pleaded for bail after the presentation of facts, but the court denied granting them bail.
