One of the embattled national executives of the People’s National Convention, Bernard Mornah says the continuing power struggle in the party is giving him sleepless nights.Mr. Mornah who is the General Secretary of the party is facing contempt charges together with Dr Edward Mahama, the party’s Presidential candidate in the 2008 elections and five others.“When your house is on fire, you cannot be happy at all, and my house is on fire, I am devastated, I am so traumatized that our party that many Ghanaians are looking up to as a party of sound and credibility will turn out to engage ourselves in issues, in my opinion, that I consider so trivial and immaterial to the success and fortune of the party,” he told Joy News’ Eric Ahianyo.Seven leading members of the party have been charged for breaching a court directive to keep off the party’s offices pending the ruling of a case filed by Dr Somtim Tobiga and other members of the Interim Management Committee.Explaining processes leading to their being cited for contempt, Mr. Mornah said the National Executive Committee (NEC) convened a meeting on March 18 at the party’s headquarters in Accra office, and “on the next day we [were] told we have been charged for contempt of court”.He denied knowledge of the court’s order barring him and the others from visiting the party office. He suspects selective justice was at play, thus questioning why only seven members would be cited for contempt when over 40 leading members of the party attended the said meeting. He said the action by Dr Somtim Tobiga has greatly affected the party and members have expressed worry over the issue, except for what in his view are some “mischievous” persons who would want to see the party collapse. The contempt case is due for hearing on the 6th of June.Story by Isaac Essel/Myjoyonline.com/Ghana
