Mr Oscar Kweku Appiah, Chairman of the Mankessim Number Three branch of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) has appealed to the courts to give drivers a hearing when they appear before them for committing traffic offences.
Mr Appiah alleged that some courts pronounced sentences immediately the prosecution had given their side of the case without listening to the drivers and described the situation as a perverse of justice.
He made the allegation when he addressed the local Taxi Drivers' Union at a meeting to elect new officers at Mankessim.
Mr Appiah reminded drivers that a special court had been set up for them and that they should be extra careful in the discharge of their work.
"You should not let quick money making to override your senses," he advised and urged them to ensure regular maintenance of their vehicle.
All the five officers were returned unopposed in an election conducted by Mr Eric Abakah Hagan, Mfantseman District Electoral Officer.
Mr Francis Yanney, Chairman, Mr Francis Arthur Vice Chairman, Mr Abeeku Aidoo, Secretary, Mr Anthony Tawiah and Mr Francis Acquah, First and Second trustees respectively.
Mr Yanney expressed gratitude to the members for the confidence they had reposed in the executive.
