The maiden edition of the Cowbell National Junior Elite Athletics Championship got underway on Thursday at the El Wak Stadium in Accra involving Participants from the 10 regions of Ghana, competing in High jump, Javelin and 4 x 400m relay for boys and girls respectively.
The opening day of the Promasidor Ghana Ltd sponsored event saw Eastern region and the Greater Accra region clinching more medals after both annexed 2 gold medals each in the five events honored on Thursday.
A total of eighteen disciplines would be competed for, with the first three athletes in each event receiving a full year's scholarship.
Ernestina Ayi from the Greater Accra Region won gold in the girls 100 meters finals with an incredible 12.28secs.
Ayi who did very well during the heats was close to Martha Adusei's record of 11.58secs set in 1993 during schools and colleges Athletics Championship.
“I’m so excited for this because it is not everybody that will get the opportunity to be here,”
“I want all of you to watch out because I will one day become like Usain Bolt and win a lot of medals for Ghana".
