The Central Committee (CC) and the Disciplinary Committee (DC) of the Convention People’s Party (CPP) might be heading for a head-on collision following varying positions regarding the suspension of two national executives.
Whereas the DC has exonerated the suspended National Youth Organiser, Ernesto Yeboah and the General Secretary, Nii Armah Akomfrah of all wrongdoings, CC believes otherwise. It wants the duo to be further investigated.
Genesis:
The CC of the party suspended the two national officers for denigrating the name of the party. They were accused of contradicting the position of the party’s Presidential Candidate, Ivor Kobina Greenstreet on a matter regarding a Ford Expedition vehicle gifted to President John Mahama by a Burkinabe contractor, Oumarou Djibril Kanazoe.
The revelation came out following Joynews’ Manasseh Awuni Azure’s expose about the relationship between the Ghanaian leader and the Burkinabe contractor who does business with government. Many anti-graft activists chided President Mahama for receiving the gift.
The duo also slammed the President on different platforms which was at variance with the position of Mr Greenstreet who said he found nothing wrong with Mr Mahama receiving the gift.
In what took many political pundits by surprise, the party accused Messrs Yeboah and Akomfrah of having contradicted the Presidential Candidate which later led to an emergency Central Committee meeting to consider their situation. They were suspended.
Contradiction or simply politics?
The Disciplinary Committee investigating the suspension of the two, referred to it by CC, exonerated them and recommended they be reinstated by the party.
But speaking to Joynews, Deputy Communications Director of CPP, Aziz Gomda, says CC was not impressed with the work done by DC.
CC believes it was unfair to clear the duo of all charges considering the shame they brought to the party.
He says CC, at its meeting last week, has referred the duo back to the DC leveling fresh allegations to be dealt with.
Denied entry to party office:
Meanwhile, an attempt by the Mr Yeboah and Mr Akomfrah to get access to their respective office was shot down some party executives.
Mr Gomda explained the suspended officers were denied entry based on a provision of the party's constitution.
In accordance with Article 114 Clause C of the CPP Constitution Officers referred to the Disciplinary Committee may be prohibited from participating in party activities.
