A lawyer and leading member of the Convention People’s Party has rubbished calls for the relocation of the capital due to the recent chieftaincy crisis in the Ga State.
Mr Bright Akwetey described the calls as “frivolous, shallow and premature”.
A pressure group, the Progressive Nationalist Forum (PNF) made the call on Monday.
According to its spokesperson, Richard Nyama, Accra is becoming unsuitable as the National capital due to the protracted chieftaincy crisis.
He argued the crisis is creating tension and a sense of insecurity mostly to investors.
Richard Nyama said government should constitute a committee to consider the suggestion and remove the capital away from Accra.
But in a reaction, the CPP lawyer who is counsel for one of the factions in the Ga Chieftaincy crisis said the call is needless.
Bright Akwetey told Joy News' Dzifah Bampoh there are far more important socio-economic issues which government ought to think about than a frivolous issues as change in capital.
He said the call is premature and reasons for it are shallow which ought not to be taken seriously.
Bright Akwetey down played the security implication the chieftaincy crisis may have on the capital and challenged persons within the PNF to state where in the country or world where there is no crisis of some sought.
“The installation of a Ga Chief at Ga Mashie should not cause movement of the Capital City,” he posited.
