Veteran journalist Abdul Malik Kweku Baako has reserved strong words for critics of a celebrity-led protest against the unbearable power crisis.

“I pity them. They are pathetic. They need to be forgiven. They don’t understand democracy”, the Editor-In-Chief of the New Crusading Guide described the posture of critics of the protest dubbed #Dumsormuststop Vigil.

The vigil is being organised by award-winning movie actress Yvonne Nelson and colleagues such as Ama K Abebrese, DKB, Van Vicker, EL, Sarkodie, Kwaw Kese, Efya, D-Black, Confident Haugen, Nicky Sammona and others.

But some pro-government quarters have criticised the vigil saying it is not a solution to the three-year trending national irritant known in local parlance as ‘dumsor’.

Kweku Baako is unimpressed by the position taken by the critics. He traced the progression of criticism against what many believe is government incompetence in solving the power crisis.

Apart from the opposition NPP, he said “the clergy is talking, labour is talking, students are talking, today we have artistes, musicians and movie stars”.

“Everybody is talking. The impact is huge”, he said on Multi TV and Joy FM's Newsfile Saturday.

While protesting may not solve the problem, Baako argued that protests for whatever reason, are intrinsic to a democracy.

“Those who are out there making ugly noises….need to get their head screwed up”, he dismissed.

But Minister for Private Public Partnership, Rashid Pelpuo believes the celebrities brought the insults on themselves when they denigrated the presidency.

He said describing the president as a “school boy” who consistently fails his exams while taking on the president’s men as “dogs” is derogatory.

Rashid Pelpuo questioned the action by the celebrities when President Mahama had clearly indicated the problem will be fixed.

He has labelled the street protest called by some Ghanaian celebrities against the power crisis as an anti-climax.

He also called on the entertainers to refrain from politics.
