A 6pm-to-8am curfew has been imposed on Kpatinga in the Northern Region following a parallel installation of an Abudu chief, Kpatinga-Naa, Naatogmah Ziblim. Northern Region Minister Moses Mabengba said the curfew was imposed to arrest a possible escalation of violence that may arise as a result of the installation of the new chief. Naatogmah Ziblim has been arrested and assisting the Tamale police in investigations. Angry Abudu youths were on rampage Tuesday afternoon burning spent tyres in protest of the arrest. The chaos coincided with the 10 years anniversary of the murder of the late king of Dagbon Ya-Na Yakubu Andani. A brother of the arrested chief, Alhassan Jabila Ziblim told Joy News’ Evans Mensah the whereabouts of the new chief was unknown. Explaining why the Abudus installed a parallel chief in Kpatinga, Ziblim said the Andanis were breaking, with contempt, the Yendi roadmap for peace. According to him, per that roadmap, the Abudu and Andani gates were to suspend the installation of chiefs until the funerals of the late Ya-Na of the two gates have been performed. He said the Andanis have broken the agreement by installing chiefs in almost all the suburbs and are continuing with the funerals. He said they also installed a chief in Kpatinga to ensure the principle of equity is respected. He however wondered why his brother - the new Kpatinga chief - was picked up by armed security personnel when the Andanis have enskinned chiefs in almost all the areas in Yendi. The Regional Minister, however, said the government will not allow parallel chiefs to be installed because it is a recipe for chaos. He would not explain who is the right chief of Kpatinga, insisting it is not the place of the government to declare who is the chief. He said however that Yendi was calm after tension in the afternoon caused by the rampaging Abudu youth.
