The Overlord of Dagbon, Yaa Naa Abukari II, has called for the commencement of Phase Three of the ongoing airport development project to ensure that the facility meets its full potential and serves its intended purpose.
During the President’s thank-you tour of the Northern Region, Zangbalin Lana, Dr. Yakubu Mahama delivered a speech on behalf of the Dagbon Overlord emphasing the importance of completing the final phase so that the airport can accommodate all of its expected operations, particularly in providing dignified services for local citizens.
"We want to entreat you to start Phase Three of the project so that the airport can handle all that it was intended to do, including ensuring the humane handling of our citizens," Yaa Naa Abukari II stated.
He further highlighted that such a significant investment should be fully appreciated by the people it is meant to serve, ensuring that the airport not only facilitates travel but also meets the social and economic needs of the region.
"Such a huge investment must be appreciated by the people it serves," he said.
In addition, the Yaa Naa, in consultation with the Nayiri (the Overlord of the Mamprugu Kingdom) and the Bimbilla Naa (the chief of Bimbilla), proposed renaming the Tamale International Airport as Gbewaa International Airport.
