CEO of McDan Shipping Company Ltd Daniel McKorley has emerged the 2017 Chamber Business Man of the year at the second Chamber Business awards in Accra.
The Ghana National Chamber of Commerce and Industry also acknowledged and celebrated thirty-five other key individuals and organizations for contributing meaningfully to business practice in Ghana.
This was at the second edition of the Ghana Chamber Business Awards held over the weekend under the theme “Empowering the Private Sector to move Ghana Beyond Aid.”
The Chamber Business Woman of the year award went to Janet Abobigu CEO of Uni-Jay Ltd while the young entrepreneur of the year was given to Ruth Maria Assandoh of Akila.

Other awardees for the night were 2017 Best hospitality company of the year which went to Accra City Hotel, best Life and non-life Insurance company Enterprise Life Insurance with Agribusiness company of the year going to Nyonkopa Cocoa Buying Company Ltd.
For the regional awards category Niche, cocoa industry ltd won the best regional company of the year for the Tema region while Continental Christian Trader also known as CCT Group emerged the best regional company for the Accra region.
Adonko Bitters Ltd was the best regional company for Ashanti. In the special awards category, Boris B’s Farm and Veterinary Supplies was adjudged the Poultry Business of the year with Ernest Chemist winning the best pharmaceutical company of the year.

The indigenous manufacturing company of the year went to Kantanka Group of companies while the automobile company of the year award was given to Toyota Ghana Company Ltd.
In the financial sector best development bank of the year went to Exim Bank Ghana with GCB bank Ltd winning the indigenous bank with the largest coverage.
Chairman of the Council of State and Omanhene of the Juaben Traditional Area, Nana Otuo Siriboe II, who was the special guest of honour for the occasion congratulated the Ghana National Chamber of Commerce for playing a significant role in the growth and development of the private sector in Ghana since post-independence.
He said the theme for the event was appropriate as it seeks to mobilize private sector support to pursue the beyond aid agenda.
“To reverse the trend of Ghana’s over-reliance on foreign aid and to transform the Ghanaian economy and create prosperity for all on a sustainable basis, requires a paradigm shift in the way we plan and execute our developmental agenda,” he noted.
Nana Otuo Siriboe paid tribute to the World Bank doing business 2019 report which puts Ghana in a prominent position in West Africa. He said the 2019 budget will inspire business confidence leading to positive impact and private sector growth and the economy in general.
Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry Robert Ahomka Lindsay who represented the sector Minister Alan Kyeremanteng underscored the need to celebrate businesses, personalities and institutions that have distinguished themselves as it engages the next generation which wants to occupy the footsteps of their predecessors.
“There is a saying success breeds success. So if we need to celebrate success to ensure that the next round of success comes through then that becomes a necessary element,” he said.
The 2017 Chamber Business Man of the year and CEO of McDan Shipping Company Ltd Daniel McKorley, said he was humbled for being recognized by many people culminating in this ultimate award.
He was of the view that the 2019 budget was a good one that will consolidate the gains made so far this year.
“I see a lot of business for the business community in the budget so next year we are going to see a boom in this country,” he stressed.
