The Ghana Education Service (GES) says the management of Gwiraman senior high school (SHS) where a final year student died is not to blame for the incident.

According to the Service, the deceased, Nathaniel Yankey, 21, was staying in a private hostel and not on campus.

The finalist passed on Wednesday after he was rushed to the Essikado Hospital.

Although it is not yet known what caused his death, his mother Mena Adjoa Esson blames school authorities for the demise of her son.

According to Ms Esson, numerous requests to school authorities for her son to be allowed to come home proved futile.

She is accusing them of negligence and lack of care which she said led to the untimely death of her son.

But the GES in a statement signed by the Head of Public Relations Unit at the Service, Cassandra Twum Ampofo said the finalist did not die on campus as it has been reported.

"Master Nathaniel Yankey left the hostel to his parents' house when he felt unwell last Friday and the school was notified," the statement said.

GES said it was after the management of Gwiraman SHS called to check up on him, that they were told of his death.

The statement urged the media to properly check its facts "before publishing their stories in order not to create fear and panic among the public."
