Defense Minister, Mark Woyongo has said the ban on motor bike riding in Bawku will not be lifted anytime soon because of security reasons.
Speaking to the Paramount chief of the Bawku traditional area as part of his tour of the northern command of the Ghana Armed Forces, Mr. Woyongo said a decision would be taken on the ban when the security situation at the area improves.
"We have been under pressure to lift the ban on motor riding in Bawku but we can only do that on the advice of the security on the ground. Yesterday I had a briefing with the military personnel in Tamale and their advice is that we should not lift the ban now," he revealed.
He however noted that the ban cannot be indefinite and "along the line we need to lift the ban so that people can ride the motor bikes and do their business."
Mr. Woyongo appealed for cooperation from the feuding factions in Bawku to bring lasting peace to the area.
