The governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) says the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) are being dishonest in demanding President Mahama shows figures in his ‘Accounting to the people’ tour.

According to the NPP, President John Mahama thus far has failed to show to the nation his budget before working out the expenditure of the projects he is commissioning.

A member of the NDC communications team, Dela Edem, reacting to this call on JOYNEWS’ political program, Joint Caucus, Friday said politicians must learn, to be honest.

He warned that care should be taken; else the people they are to serve would revolt against them when politicians like those in the NPP show their dishonesty.

“Anybody has heard the cost of all the projects here [in the Green Book]. Before a project is executed it goes to parliament and they approve it so members of parliament (MPs) get to know the cost and everything else,” Edem said.

Mr. Edem said it is up to the NPP MPs to educate their people on the costs involved adding that every project listed in the Green Book comes with the cost indicated.

Regarding the Komenda Sugar factory, he said all the $339 million involved is public knowledge and so is the Affordable Housing Project in Prampram as well as the $273 million in the Kpong Rehabilitation Project to give  water to people in Madina and its environs

However, the communications team member of the NPP, Nana Boakye, disagreed citing cases like the Smartty’s and AMERI deal which the NPP MPs exposed.

Edem rejected this assertion lauding the president’s efforts at dealing with corrupt practices especially in the Smartty’s deal where the company was made to refund monies paid to them in their overpriced bill to government.

Also, Mr. Boakye questioned why the NDC used artistic impressions in the Green Book to throw dust in the eyes of people when these projects have not even taken off. He thinks the party will use those images to sway unsuspecting Ghanaians that those are part of their achievements.

The NPP, Mr. Boakye said, finds it disingenuous on the part of President Mahama to tell parliament and the whole country of roads which were not done as completed.
