Deputy Youth and Sports Minister Joseph Yamin believes athlete Janet Amponsah has what it takes to become a World Champion in future despite her disappointing campaign at this year’s IAAF Championships in Moscow.
Amponsah, the nation’s sole representative at the global event which ended on Sunday yesterday finished last in her heat for the 200 metres.
Honourable Yamin says the sprinter should not despair and he expects the 20-year-old to build her flop display to become a future sprint queen.
“We need to encourage her because if Usain Bolt started from somewhere and now he is a world champions, she could also get to that stage,” he told Joy sports
“All that Janet needs to do is to keep up the momentum and train hard and I’m sure she will get to the level that she wants to get to and Ghana will be proud.
“Is good to start from somewhere and what I think we need to do is to pay much attention to any competition that the country wants to participate in it and get the best to represent the country.”
