Some relief items have been distributed to some displaced residents in the three coastal districts affected by flood in the Keta and Ketu South Municipalities in the Volta Region.

The items procured by the National Disaster Management organization (NADMO) and brought by the Director General, Mr Eric Nana Agyemang Prempeh were handed over to the Keta MCE on behalf of the Ketu South MCE.

The items included bags of rice, mattresses, plastic buckets, washing bowls, cups and eating bowls and cartons of soap.

The rest are cartons of cooking oil, cartons of mosquito repellant and mosquito nets.

Director General of NADMO, Mr Eric Nana Agyemang, explained to the media that the distribution was priority-based looking at the urgency of it and how serious the issue was.

Mr Eric Nana Agyemang Prempeh noted that it was sad that residents are displaced at this time, however, government will do its possible best to make sure that each and every one of the affected residents get enough relief items to help them for the meantime.

He noted that he was grateful to God that there was no casualty despite the heavy rains because it would have been disastrous.

Mr Agyemang Prempeh said with climate adaptation, the water will recede by the time the school children especially those on holidays are back to school.

He noted that when such disasters happen the first action taken by the NADMO is to do an assessment first before distributing relief items to the affected residents or communities.

Mr Agyemang Prempeh noted that during the tour he noted that there was the need for more mattresses to be brought to the affected communities and so had to send messages to the office to have more to be given out since soon.  

He noted that the relief items are meant for only residents affected by the flood and not everyone in the various communities so as to avoid complaints from the affected residents of not benefiting from the items.

He, however, directed the MCEs and the NADMO officials to have the items fairly distributed.

MCE for Keta, Emmanuel Gemegah pledged to make sure that the items get to only the affected communities and residents and used for their intended purpose.

Regional Director of NADMO, Ivy Mawufemor Amewugah and staff from the regional and national office accompanied the Director General.
