The Electoral Commission has fixed December 26th as the date for the district level elections.
The polls were originally to be conducted later this month but have had to be postponed because of some proposed legislative changes.
Chairman of the Electoral Commission Dr. Kwadwo Afari Gyan told a news conference in Accra the delays have been attributed to the re-demarcation of electoral areas and promulgation of a legislation to back that.
He explained the re-demarcation was absolutely necessary because the current electoral areas were created in 1988.
Since then, he said, the country’s population had almost doubled, necessitating the creation of new electoral areas.
Dr Afari Gyan said the Electoral Commission in conjunction with the Local Government Ministry had done the re-demarcation and realignment of electoral areas.
