Former Black Stars great and member of the victorious Ghana team that annexed the 1978 Nations Cup, Mohammed Ahmed Polo has said the current Stars Coach, Kwasi Appiah should not be axed, insisting continuity is the way forward.
Speaking to JOY Sports, the experienced player now turned Coach, was of the view that axing coaches who fail to hit targets immediately after major tournaments has not helped the cause of developing the Black Stars into a fearsome and winsome side in Africa and around the world.
The Black Stars failed to progress to the finals of the just ended African Cup of Nations in South Africa after a penalty shoot-out with the Stallions of Burkina Faso and lost out to Mali in the 3rd place game.
He conceded that the Stars were woeful in their attempt to claim their fifth Continental Trophy but opined that building on from the experience Kwasi Appiah has accrued is paramount.
"So far, as far as I’m concerned, we should keep him, we need to. This guy has taken the Stars to the Nations Cup, and despite finishing fourth he has gotten some experience, we should build on that and not fire him at all."
Meanwhile, Kwasi Appiah would learn his fate as Head Coach of the National team, in a few days' time after a crunch Football Association executive meeting and assessment of his technical report.
