Dr Fatimatu Bello is a Ghanaian researcher who has made significant contributions to the field of sustainable technology and environmental stewardship.
Growing up in New Tafo-Akim, a small town in Ghana's Eastern Region, she pursued a career in science and engineering. Currently working as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Auburn University, Dr Bello’s research focuses on sustainable biomaterials for diverse applications including food packaging and horticulture plant containers.
Dr Bello's work is particularly significant in addressing plastic pollution and promoting environmental sustainability. She has developed multi-functional bio-based packaging materials with antioxidation and UV-barrier properties using materials from wood and agricultural residue.
This innovative approach offers a sustainable alternative to synthetic plastic packaging, adding value to food and agro-industrial waste while creating new opportunities in both the agricultural and packaging sectors.
One of Dr Bello's key research areas involves the application of surface-sensitive analytical techniques, such as Quartz Crystal Microbalance with Dissipation Monitoring (QCM-D), to study the surface chemistry and interfacial interaction of biopolymers.
