The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology has appointed Dr. Nana Kwame Ayisi-Boateng as Director of University Health Services.
He succeeds Dr. Osei Kwaku Wusu-Ansah whose term of office ended this year.
Profile of Dr. Nana Kwame Ayisi-Boateng
Dr. Nana Kwame Ofori Ayisi-Boateng, an alumnus of Presbyterian Boys’ Senior High School, Legon, graduated from the KNUST School of Medical Sciences in 2007.
He later pursued an MPhil in Clinical Microbiology at KNUST and obtained both his membership (MGCP) and fellowship (FGCP) in Family Medicine from the Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons.
At KNUST, Dr. Ayisi-Boateng has held multiple roles. Since 2019, he has been a Lecturer in the Department of Medicine and has served as Assistant Coordinator for the Physician Assistantship Programme since 2020.
He also serves as Head of the Infectious Disease Unit at the University Hospital, a role he has held since 2015.
His duties include coordinating the training of house officers, residents, and interns, with a focus on preparing healthcare professionals.
In addition to his academic and administrative work, Dr. Ayisi-Boateng is a researcher with publications in refereed journals.
His research covers family medicine, infectious disease treatment, and COVID-19 patient outcomes, including studies on ivermectin treatments for onchocerciasis and factors affecting hypertension among Ghanaians.
His work on COVID-19 has contributed to understanding pandemic management within the Ghanaian healthcare context, and he researches antibiotic use and disease prevention.
Dr Ayisi-Boateng holds memberships in the Ghana Medical Association, and the Society of Family Physicians of Ghana, and is an executive member of the World Organization of Family Doctors (WONCA) in Africa.
He chairs the AfriWon Renaissance under WONCA-Africa, working on family medicine initiatives in the region.
His service record includes contributions to the university, the nation, and international partnerships.
At KNUST, he is a resource person and serves on committees such as the College of Health Sciences Research Communication Committee and the COVID-19 Case Management Team.
Nationally, he has been involved in training programs for health professionals, such as COVID-19 workshops and accreditation assessments. Internationally, Dr. Ayisi-Boateng collaborated on the Grantham-KNUST Family Medicine Twinning Project, promoting partnerships in family medicine.
