The founder of the latest political party, the Progressive People’s Party (PPP), Dr. Paa Kwasi Nduom has chosen February 25th next month to hold national congress.
He said the national congress would be used to outdoor the party’s flagbearer and parliamentary candidates for the December general elections.
Dr. Nduom made this known at the Takoradi Polytechnic when addressing enthusiastic party supporters and sympathizers during the outdooring of interim Regional executives of the party on Sunday.
The meeting was also used to outdoor some CPP aspiring Regional executives and supporters who had deferred to the PPP.
They were Fiifi Twumasi Ankrah, Andrews Somia- Kwame Nkrumah, Seldof Ankrah, Leo Mensah, Samuel Bartels, Richard Amoako, Geogina Kudalor and Isaac Kingsley Mensah.
Dr. Nduom expressed optimism that the Electoral Commission (EC) would grant the party a provisional certificate this week since it had fulfilled all the criteria required to be registered as a political party.
The former CPP flagbearer stated that, the PPP was the only party that could deliver Ghanaians from poverty, joblessness, corruption, deceit and urged all and sundry to join it to liberate the country from economic doldrums.
He said the PPP was for Ghanaians and that if given the mandate to govern the country, Ghanaian contractors would be given prior attention when awarding contracts.
“I say without any apologies, the foreigners should go to their countries to work because Ghana is for Ghanaians,“ he stressed.
The former CPP presidential candidate promised that any member of the PPP, who managed to recruit thousand new members into the party would be given GHc2,000 as seed capital to establish any business of his or her choice after rigorous investigations had been conducted to ascertain the validity of the people recruited.
“There are many professionals including lawyers, doctors, teachers, nurses, engineers all over the country and abroad who are prepared to support the party in various ways to rescue Ghanaians from the shackles of poverty,” he emphasized.
Dr. Nduom advised the party’s supporters and sympathizers to desist from insult and insolent behaviour when they found themselves in any platform to defend the party, but rather give respect to everybody.
“We know that in Ghana politics, the ruling NDC and the NPP are the giants at the moment, but let the giants make merry and sleep and think that they have won the battle already.
"The PPP will hit the ground running when the EC gives us the provisional certificate and you should not be discouraged by what people will say about the party and victory will be ours,” he assured the enthusiastic supporters.
Over thousand supporters and sympathizers of the PPP adorned with red and white colours of the party, thronged the Takoradi Polytechnic auditorium to welcome Dr. Nduom amidst dancing and singing.
The auditorium ruptured into thunderous shouts of Edwumawura! Edwumawura! Edwumawura! when the founder of the party entered the auditorium accompanied by the former CPP Women’s Organizer, Mary Ankomah and interim national executives of the party.
