Heads of drug enforcement agencies in Africa meeting in Accra are looking to harmonize the law for various drug offences across the sub region. If a common agreement is finalised drug trafficking offences will attract the same prison sentence across Africa.Officials of drug enforcement agencies have been meeting in Ghana to fashion out a way forward to fight the menace.Joy News’ Sammy Darko who has been monitoring the meeting reports the decision by the officials to harmonise the laws is to discourage traffickers from moving from one African country to another when they see loop holes in the legal regimes of a particular country. The region for years has been notorious for drug trafficking and with poverty on the ascendancy, it is feared trafficking will become a lot more attractive.Sammy Darko said the officials are seeking to deal ruthlessly with traffickers when caught.
