The UK branch of the Denkyiraman Association has donated medical equipment valued at GH¢88,600 to the Dunkwa Government Hospital.

The medical equipment include two incubators, two patient monitors, five foetal heart monitors, one VCG machine, ten blood pressure apparatus, 15 adult weighing scales, two delivery beds, three baby pants scales and two detention beds.

The donation, according to the Association forms part of its corporate social responsibility to the communities in Denkyira.

Handing over the equipment to the hospital, General Secretary of the Denkyiraman Association in the UK, Kweku Ackon Bedu-Addo, said the donation was in fulfilment of their responsibility to the hospital that lacked medical equipment.

The Dunkwa Government Hospital in the Upper Denkyira East Municipality has no ambulance and lacks many basic medical equipment essential for the efficient running of a hospital.

Many premature births at the hospital result in mortality, according to medical officials, because there were no incubators at the facility.

The Denkyiraman Association in the UK touched by the situation made a passionate appeal to the Ghana International Bank to help them assist the hospital with essential medical equipment.

According to the General Secretary of the Association, the Ghana International Bank honoured their promise to them and released funds for the purchase of the equipment.

“We are so grateful to the Ghana International Bank for their support. Their support and the support of the 30 active members of the Association in the UK and our counterparts in Ghana (the Denkyira Development Association, Ghana) made this possible,” he said.

Kweku Bedu-Addo made an appeal to the people of the Denkyira to contact their relatives who live abroad to join the Association so the communities in the Denkyira Kingdom can benefit from such donations and benevolence.

“There are about 2,500 Denkyira citizens living in London alone. Can you imagine if even half of these people joined the 30 active members of the Association in the UK, what manner of support we can offer to support our communities back home, “he queried.

Municipal Director of Health Services, Dr. Kwabena Sarpong thanked the Denkyiraman Association for their persistent support to the hospital. According to him, the hospital is indebted to the Association for their show of love and support.

“We cannot thank the Association enough for their support. They are there for us whenever we need them. Such great hearts and minds need commendation,” he averred.

President of the Denkyira Development Association, Ghana, Joseph Barnor Lokko, advised the hospital to put the equipment to good use and ensure they are used for the benefit of the hospital.

“We the DDA in Ghana and our colleagues in the UK will team up to ensure that the needs of the hospital are met. We will continue to monitor to ensure that the facilities are used for their intended purpose,” he stated.

The present donation adds to the strings of donations by the Association in recent times.  

A few years ago, the Denkyiraman Association in the UK donated medical equipment valued at GH¢400,000 to the Dunkwa Government Hospital and other polyclinics in the Upper Denkyira East and West Districts. The Association also extended its gesture to schools by providing textbooks, printers, and computers to support education in the area.

The Denkyira Development Association in Ghana was represented by the President, Joseph Barnor Lokko and other members including William Amofa Appiah and Patrick Adu. The Acting President of the Denkyira Traditional Area chaired the function.
