A group of East Legon residents have persuaded Glo Telecommunications to stop constructing a potentially harmful mast on their street.
The residents, whose street is already the site of masts from two other telecom companies, became alarmed after what they thought was a cattle pen turned out to be the foundation for another mast.
One resident, Jennifer Baffuor Awuah, told Joy News erecting the masts there could affect their health.
The unhappy residents signed a formal petition and delivered it to the Accra Metropolitan Assembly, sending copies to local MP, Frema Osei Opare; Information Minister, Haruna Iddrissu, and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
Two Glo representatives got in touch and agreed to a meeting on Monday, where the residents were surprised to hear that the company had not yet acquired construction permits, although they begun the application process.
The representatives subsequently promised to take into account the residents’ concerns, saying work could not go on without their approval.
