Eco-Plas Ghana, a waste-to-fuel start-up has emerged winner of the maiden Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology Student Representative Council Think it, Fund it pitch.
They received a cash prize of ¢30,000 to support their initiative.
In February this year, the Students Representative Council of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology launched an Entrepreneurship Endowment Fund to help entrepreneurial students realise their dreams.
It is also to inculcate the spirit of entrepreneurship in the students and encourage them to venture into the world of business and not rely solely on the government for employment.
The initiative is supported by a GH¢5 contribution from each KNUST student.
Twenty-four finalists were selected from over 300 applicants.
Mchan Organics which placed second processes cocoa pods into organic products. It received a cash prize of 20,000 cedis.
Profeeds Ghana which is into the processing of waste into animal feeds emerged as 2nd runner-up with a cash prize of 15,000 cedis.
However, the 4th to 10th positions received ¢10,000 each and the 11th to 24th positions getting ¢5,000.
Outgoing SRC president, Frank Owusu encouraged the finalists to relentlessly pursue their visions in order to contribute to the fund.
“In the future when you end up breaking the glass ceiling of business, understand that it is the contributions of students that have taken you to where you are, so remember to give back,” he said.
Head of the KNUST Centre for Business Development, Dr. Samuel Yaw Akomea assured the finalists of his outfit’s continuous support to fine-tune their initiatives.
