In a grand and colorful rich display of beautifully paraded home grown Ghanaian food crops region by region, Ghana, marked the 31st Edition of the National Farmers Day for the 6th year running.
The Export Trade, Agricultural and Industrial Development Fund, EDAIF, has been a major sponsor of the National Farmers’ Day Each year.
The organization provides substantial prizes worth hundreds of thousands of Ghana cedis to farmers in recognition of their contribution to national development.
EDAIF also provides support as a means of encouraging farmers, fishermen and women as well as many others in the agricultural sector.
Since its inception, EDAIF has been at the forefront of financing agriculture related to agro-processing.
Several farmers, farmer groups and associations have benefited from the Fund in the past. These interventions have gone a long way to improve the lives of farmers and that of their families. More importantly, the support has largely contributed to national development.
The livestock, food crops and non-traditional export sectors of the economy have also seen major boost over the years as a result of EDAIF tranches of support financials or through the provision of equipment for economic growth. Others include financial support for initiatives spearheaded by the Ministry of Food and Agriculture on capacity-building and related services.
This year, EDAIF provided two tractors, worth GHC 400,000. The two tractors were given to Gideon Anaaba, the National Best Livestock farmer and Augustine Boateng, first runner-up respectively.
The theme for this year’s Farmers' day celebration: “Transform Ghana-Invest in Agriculture”, rightly falls within EDAIF's mandate of investing in agriculture for acceleration in national development.
Support for the National Farmers’ Day, therefore is in line with the mandate of EDAIF.
