Elmina Sharks player Jay Asamoah Kola has been slapped with a one-year ban by the Ghana Football Association’s Disciplinary Committee for attacking a match official.
He breached the statutes of the football governing body by assaulting center referee Eso Doh Morrison during their match against Swedru All Blacks in a Division One League game.
A video of Jay went viral on social media, showing him attempting to hit the match referee with a stone.
He has been warned that a repeat of such misconduct will attract severe sanctions.
Meanwhile, five club officials - George Wiredu, Seth Armstrong, Kelvin Aboagye, Joshua Kyibazah, and Kingsley Arther - have also been suspended for the rest of the campaign.
They have also been fined GHS 10,000 for invading the field to confront match officials in the aforementioned match.
The move by the FA is to curb the growing incidents of hooliganism in the sport.
