The African Media Network for the Promotion of Health and Environment (REMAPSEN) has announced the appointment of Emefa Atiamoah-Eli as the Regional Coordinator for Maternal, Newborn, and Child Health.

Emefa will continue to serve as the National Coordinator for REMAPSEN Ghana, a role she has held since June 2023.

Emefa brings over two decades of experience in journalism and media leadership to her new regional role. As the Coordinator for Strategic Partnerships and Projects at the Joy Brands of Multimedia Group Limited, she has spearheaded numerous initiatives aimed at promoting health and environmental awareness across Ghana.

In her capacity as National Coordinator, Emefa has been instrumental in the establishment and management of the Ghana Chapter of REMAPSEN for over one year. Emefa has also led teams from Ghana to participate in regional forums aimed at bridging the communication gap between health professionals, government and the general public.

She was recently among a number of experts carefully selected from Academia, Media, Health, Civil Service, humanitarian organisations and the general public to help set priority research questions for the Ghana Health Service in a bid to improve on the quality of care and services provided at the country’s health facilities.

Her work has consistently focused on amplifying issues related to maternal and child health, aligning with REMAPSEN's mission to leverage media for health promotion.

This newly expanded role comes a little over a week after she hosted this year’s Law and Development Associates (LADA) Policy Dialogue. The event, held in commemoration of World Health Day 2025, centered on the theme: “Healthy Beginnings, Brighter Futures: Unlocking Universal Health Coverage for Maternal and Newborn Health.”

The dialogue convened a panel of esteemed health experts and policymakers, including: Dr. Raymond Atuguba, Chairman of LADA, Dr. Katherine Attoh, National Professional Officer for Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn, Child, Adolescent Health, and Healthy Ageing at WHO Ghana, Dr. Amanuel Abajobir, African Population and Health Research Center, Dr. Becky Boakye-Yiadom, Central Regional Quality Assurance Manageress of the National Health Insurance Scheme, Dr. Hilda Mantebea Boye, President of the Paediatric Society of Ghana.

Emefa has been at the forefront of numerous health campaigns. Notably, during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic, she led the "WearTheMask-Save A Life" and "StopTheStigma" campaigns on JoyNews and Adom News platforms, initiatives that significantly contributed to public health education and safety protocols in Ghana.

Beyond national borders, Emefa has represented Ghana in various international forums on health and environmental issues, including conferences in Lomé, Togo, and Dakar, Senegal. Her participation in these events has facilitated cross-border collaborations and the exchange of best practices in health communication and policy advocacy.

REMAPSEN President Bamba Youssouf expressed confidence in Emefa's ability to drive the network's objectives forward, stating, "Emefa's dedication and expertise make her an invaluable asset to REMAPSEN. Her leadership will undoubtedly enhance our efforts in improving maternal, newborn, and child health across the region."

Emefa's appointment is part of a broader restructuring within REMAPSEN aimed at strengthening its governance and expanding its impact. Alongside her, Boureima Sanga of Burkina Faso has been appointed Regional Coordinator for Sexual and Reproductive Health, and Bouba Sow has been named Special Advisor to the President and Regional Partnership Coordinator.

As REMAPSEN continues to address critical health and environmental issues through media advocacy, Emefa’s her multifaceted approach - merging media, policy, and grassroots engagement is certain to drive impactful change in Ghana's health sector, particularly in maternal and newborn health.

Her recent appointment as REMAPSEN's Regional Coordinator for Maternal, Newborn, and Child Health further amplifies her influence and dedication to promoting healthier communities across West and Central Africa.
