Former Deputy Minister of Energy and Member of Parliament (MP) for Adansi Asokwa, Kobina Tahir Hammond, has urged the Government to pursue Nigeria for breach of the agreement to supply gas to Ghana.
President John Mahama on Monday instructed Energy and Petroleum Minister, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah to go to Nigeria and hold talks with the Nigerian authorities for the supply of gas as a bid to ending Ghana's power crisis.
The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) on Wednesday, released a schedule for a load management exercise for two weeks, following shortage in the generation of required energy supply to power the nation.
This is because Nigeria is now supplying 30million cubic feet of the gas instead of the agreed 120million cubic feet.
Chief Director of the Energy and Petroleum Ministry, Dr. Thomas Akabza, says the meeting with Nigeria has begun yielding positive results.
But speaking on 'Pampaso' on Adom TV, Tuesday, K.T. Hammond described as waste of time, the decision by the president to send the minister to Negotiate for the supply of the product that the country was paying for.
According to him, government in the interim, should purchase crude oil to power the thermal generating plants to supplement the gas, which is currently not available.
He therefore urged the John Mahama-led administration to develop hydro dam in Pwualugu and Juale, which he said are capable of generating 50 and 90 megawatts of power respectively.
